Ahoy Jim!
Model Shipwrights Scale Modeling Magazine!

But, if you're looking for a dedicated hard copy ship modeling only publication, they, like many, are a dying breed due to the net...there are still a few around, and some of the foreign publications are quite good...on our side of the pond, "Seaways' Ships in Scale Magazine" is one of my fave's, but it is geared more toward larger scale, scratchbuilding and the like...of course, you will find good articles of use in the ol' standby generic modeling mags, but a dedicated plastic/resin kit type mag is non-existent in our part of the world...

Jim, are you "new" to ship modelling? If so, I would recomend Mike Ashey's books: Basics of Ship modeling - the illustrated guide, and Building & Detailing Scale Model Ships. They have help ME ( a rookie) a ton... cheers! James

I am a horrifying(to me,anyways) 42 yrs old ....Iv probably been modelling since I was 6 or so ...I took about 6 years off to discover beer and girls. I mostly build Armour and biplanes...
I have done a couple of U boats, including Revells 1:72 monster.I tricked her out with a scratchbuilt anti aircraft gun, along with most of the hardware on the conning tower ,put in compasses, and added the missing inner torpedo tube doors. Re built most of the deck gun, added CMKs rear torpedotube loading set, added the pressure hull detail inside, and painted her as U 505 I believe.......a boat transferred to the med and sunk off Greece.
I picked up the last(!) copy of the US S boat submarine from Squadron and im still waiting for it to arrive (with baited breath!)
My kik is doing the research on the vessel..and yeah I still have my cherry when it comes to ships....I love those flower class corvettes and the HMS Ajax (grew up in the town of Ajax,Canada)

Jim, my "break" was about 25 years and was mostly books & work, some beer on the side
I am 44 and the most raw rookie in this place! The good people in this web site have lots of patience with me
Anyways, those 2 books were of incredible help to me, you can also pick up some mags in Squadron, 3-4 random ones (in terms of month) for a reasonable price just to "test" them out. Last month i picked couple Warship Modellers for 6$ US; gorgeous pics and builds, waaaaaaay over my skill level! I get Fine Scale Modeler, which includes everything, but a slant towards military themes.
