I'm planning on having a custom brass plate made for my Nagato. Given the space limitation of 4" by 5", what ship specific information would you place on the plate? I haven't decided on the font size, could be determined by amount of information on the plaque. This is what I'm thinking for starters...
IJN Battleship Nagato
Built 1917-1920 at Kure DY
Displ 42850
Speed 25 kts
Armament 8 - 16" 45cal
18 - 5.5" 50cal
8 - 5" AA guns
20 - 25mm AA guns
3 floatplanes
all comments welcome...

Frank,
Maybe her dates in service? Otherwise your info sounds good.

Ahoy, Frank!
Sounds like the sufficient info, mate, and Jim's suggestion of service dates would round it out well...

maybe scale of the build and year built? I would want the scale of the build at lest in order for people to put her in perspective.

Hi Frank
I would go for this kind of info (if you are going to make name plates for all, this would reveal important and coherent)
- Navy + Ship Name (IJN Nagato)
- Date / Occasion depicted (Battle of Leyte - 1944)
- Scale Model (1/350)
The info you gave, are technical info and it should be on a different plate (on top of the base, at one corner), IMHO
I am sorry if I made things worst

Yes the brass plate will be on top of the base, on the lower left hand side. The ship will be angled on the base so the fore is further back from the front of the base and the aft is closer to the front. The rear right of the base will have a stepped up pedestal with the figure of Admiral Yamamoto standing proud. We are very fortunate to have a very gifted figure painter in our local club, and if I'm lucky enough, he'll paint the figure for me. As far as the stance of the ship, I haven't quite decided, possibly at 20kts with all turrets trained to 270.
