Hello

I have the 1/72 scale Revell/Matchbox Flower Class Corvette in my hoard and at some time I in the future I intend to build it. As I live near Bristol and flower class corvettes were made here I intend to build the kit to represent a Bristol built corvette, HMS Clematis in fact.

I need some help with the AA weapon fitted to this boat, it was the Vickers .5 cal quad mount MG, I have searched the web and have only found two photos of this weapon, I could do with some more or even better drawings to scale if possible.

Any help would be great.

Peter I found these in my British naval weapons folder. I have had them for some time and the caption I jotted on them was, - 0.5 Vickers quad. Mark III 1936. Made for Argentine and British ships some pics. had no captons for country made for.
Hope these help.
I think I also might have a schmatic type drawing of this quad. The only problem is finding it. My kids say my modeling room looks like the wand shop in the Harry Potter movie, and how can I possibly find anything...................... they 're right.
Glenn

I'll be right back I've got to get the images from photobucket.

I have got to agree with what the others say, I fell my jaw drop, what for a fantastic reference bit from you Glenn!
But now Peter I will not hold my breath, but will watch from afar what you will be able to model from those terrific looking pictures

Glenn or should I call you Cheyenne,

I think I will do the "British" thing and call you Glenn.

Firstly I would like to thank you for this excellent reference material, this is the very beast that I was looking for, you photos answer a lot of questions the only way that you could improve on the information you have provided would be and I quote:

I think I also might have a schematic type drawing of this quad.

or

Pete I happen to have one of these in my back garden

I appreciate what a model room can be like but as the project is only at the "thinking about " stage if you do happen to come across the schematic I would be more than happy to see them.

I must say that I really appreciate the help you have given and as I said in my review it is this that makes you chaps so great, thanks again to you.

The weapons system might look good but against aircraft of the time its range was too short, the "Flowers" got these as they were being removed from larger and more "Important" ships, I think destroyers had them replaced with pom poms, when larger numbers of Pom poms became available these found there way on to the Flower Class boats. HMS Clematis was armed with one of these in the rear band stand (I think that is the correct term) when she left Charlie Hills ship yard in Bristol, if memory serves me right she went through the war and was scrapped some time in the mid to late 40`s I believe she was also the boat that took on the Hipper when on escort duty, only to have the Hipper run away, probably thinking that any ship that came straight on must have some thing more than a 4 inch pop gun.

Pete your very welcome. No luck on the schematic drawing yet and the one in my garden is to rusty and has seagull poop all over it.

I found some more pics. of other naval weapons from Vickers last night . I found one pic that had the site I found these on.

Dockmuseum.org Click on Vickers - lower right on menu. These pics are copywrighted so you have to use them for personal ref.

Please go to the site you will be amazed at the views of Vickers naval ordnance.
