hello all,
i have just got back from my local second hand book store.i found the complete sets of all of the Jane's books.the earliest is dated 1897 to 2007.they have include Jane's Fighting ships,Jane's Worlds Army's,Air force,Armored Vehicles, etc.all told there is about 6000 books.
And Miss Mary is letting me buy a Mobile Home 20-80 feet for my modeling area and for all my books.so i now have about 9000 hard back books on Military History plus another 8000+ on general history.and if you add in all of the Fiction,Cooking ,Gardening,Woodworking, etc it adds up to about 25,000 books.
I am am in hog heaven. But i also need to build alot of new bookshelves this summer.and i also have to cataloged all of them and get a card cataloge. wish me luck.
Hopefully i can help anyone who has questions now, with the new books.
cheers,
Bruce
PS: I had to take my bed down.i am going to stack the boxes in my bedroom for now,and sleep in the living room.

Bruce,

Great catch on your new books. I thought I had a good size collection going, but yours is insane! (but in a good way)

I was planning to get my wife a 16x10 mini building this year for her pottery studio and figured I could get a small corner, but 20x80, WOW!!!

hello James & Jim,
i have standing orders at 25 different used book stores.if you get anything i might like, they email me a list.it saves a lot of time.
Jim, does Atlanta have that big book sale,i was working there in the 90's and picked up about 100 books.if i remember right it was a shopping center that was 3 levels.they had over 10,000 books on sale.it was sweet to go all week and look.always new books every day.the Mobile home is used,1970,but i good condition.i am going to strip it, just leaving the bathroom.so i will have a lot of room, till i buy more books or models.lol
James,i always check out my local library to see if they have any used books for sale.they have a sale at least once a year.you can get some good books cheap.
now i have to figure out who to leave the books to when i die.i have no kin left.any volunteers?
cheers,
Bruce

Major score Bruce! I "recycled" many of my old books, donated a few hundred books (fiction, textbooks) to the public library to make space for "fun" stuff. Another couple hundred science books (Im a microbiologist) I had accumulated over many years, I simply tossed or gave to students. you are in Colorado, so I guess you dont have to worry too much about humidity? Anyways, cheers on the score again! James

hello all,
guess what. i got an email from one of my bookstores and he asked if i wanted about 200 Osprey books.i went today and got them.most of them are dated late 1970's -1990.and he is getting about 200 more next week.
the only problem is where to put them.my bed room is full to the ceiling, and Miss Mary will not let me put any more in the kitchen, livingroom or the bathroom.i think that having 1000 books stacked in the bathroom was the "straw that broke the camels back".
so any suggestions would be helpful before next friday.
the new trailer will not be ready for 2 months and i hate to turn them down.
cheers,
Bruce

Dude .....that is crazy stuff...LOL! My wife has been telling me she would like to move to CO so she can be closer to her friend, it might be worth it just to see your library.

If you happen to get any on German railroad during the War I know somebody who would like those.

I try to avoid Atlanta as much as I can. I live up here in the mountains and just don't like Atlanta all that much. Now Chicago is different, but since I moved away from there I can't vist the Windy City all too much.

I do have a used boook store north of me in North Carolina, but since I found hay for my horses locally I don't visit much. When I did go up there weekly my wife knew I would be coming back home with a new bag of books.

My local flea market is opening up soon. I've gotten a few nice history boooks up there over the years. The best one is a WWII Cruise book for a SeaBee Battalion.

Bruce, this may be a "city" type of solution, but we have several "storage" places all over the place, various sizes and prices. May be a temp solution to "rent" storage for a few months in such a place?

Just be careful with the heat/humidity combo, not that big of a problem in CO though.

I hear you, I have switched my "hobby" budget to source/reference books and some tools (and the occasional you cant say NO sale). Already have enough kits
