Hello all. First of all, I am a "wingy-thing" builder, when I am not building armor kits or vignettes. So, this is my first go at a naval kit. It is a 1/72 scale FineMolds kit of the 2-man midget sub that was sunk just outside Pearl Harbor. I believe someone else has posted pics of this kit a little while ago (and did a much better job, believe me! ) I have a nice little stash of 1/700 kits that I keep telling myself I will build one day. Perhaps this is the beginning I needed to get going on some of those. I appologize for the pic, photography is obviously not one of my strong suits, but I hope you can get an idea of the build. I had fun, which to me means it was a successful build, and I learned a lot, too.

This was a really nice kit, and I have it's sister ship, the 2-man sub that attacked Sydney Harbor as well. That kit will have to wait for another day.
Thanks for looking.

Cheers,
Mike

Welcome shipmate!

Nice looking mini sub. I too am one who at one time or antoher has built armor, aricraft, ships, trucks, and cars. But I wind up coming back over here.

We have some nice Campaigns coming up so maybe one of those ships in your stash will fit in.

Thank you all very much for your kind comments. I have to admit, I've been itching to start on my ship stash. Your support will certainly help as I stuggle to learn the in's and out's of naval construction. Thank you again. I think the very first thing I need to do is talk to a friend at work who is into photography...I need to figure out how to take better "Micro" pics, and give you guys a better view of things.

Oh, and JMartine, this kit was very simple (kind of why I picked it as a starter) and went together like a dream. I wish some of my aircraft kits were as tightly engineered. The major seam along the middle practically disappeared when I held it together and drew a bead of thin liquid cement across it. The color call-outs were not very extensive (basically it said BLACK for everything) and the decal scheme was pretty weak. What you see on mine was the kit scheme, and then I added to it to give it some color. The kit calls for you to use stretched sprue or wire as controls for the circular rudder on the ship. I used a thin "beading" wire found in that section at Hobby Lobby, and it worked great. I can't say anything bad about this kit, and the proof is I bought its sister ship, the 2-man sub that attacked Syndey Harbor.

Cheers,
Mike
