Ahoy Shipmates

I was in the model shop yesterday and looking at modelling magazines amonst other things. The shop stocks a great range of magazines from around the world together with some great ship models.

But there is not much for the ship modeller who is not into R/C or is just me?

Is there a good dedicated ship modelling magazine available?

In all honesty I use this site as my online ship modelling magazine and I cant ever see that changing.

Cheers

Hi Sean

Unfortunately, today and to my knowledge there's only japanese written ship modeling magazines with, I might add, very good quality. Although there are generic magazines with some ship related articles like Model Art Magazine (much in the same way as FSM but with better quality), two magazines from two different publishers pop my mind:
A - Model Art Special Warship Magazine (quarterly, so you get 4 issues per year)
B - Navy Yard (also quarterly)

A - Photos of actual ships, plans, SBS builds and conversions, great format and excellent paper quality. It is written 95% in japanese, but IMHO it is well worth the price. It has been recently released #27.

B - Same has above, minus the plans. Smaller in size. It has more english captions describing the models. Recently released #7.

There's also a french magazine called "Navires et Histoire" that is focused in ship history and has in the end of the mag (not always) some modeling articles and some market releases for the ship scale models enthusiast. Written in french, is very good for reference, since it is greatly illustrated with plans and period photos, when available. It is now on the #46 and you get 6 numbers per year.

I know the news are not good, but, as far as I know, that's what the (plastic/resin) ship modeler have nowadays!
Cheers,
Rui

Thanks Shipmates.

Yes Mark we get those magazines "downunder" but they kinda miss the niche I am looking for.

Clearly a great sitre like this fulfills that niche and I can get an injection every day rather than monthly.

I quess I can just hang out here even more.

Cheers
