hello all,
in checking the campaign matrix, the last campaign ends feb 2010,and there is nothing after Nov 2009.
i have been thinking about a Pearl Harbor campaign for some time.i have also noticed that Jordan(Modelfreak24) Pacific War Campaign is a no-go.
so how about we combined the 2 together as an Operation lasting 10 months.
the campaign starts Dec 7,1941 and runs to Aug. 15 1945 ( as the British end date).
any ship, plane, landing craft, submarine, etc used only in the Pacific is allowed.
the start time for the campaign will be either Dec. 7.2008 OR Dec 7,2009,as the members wish for the start date .
the scale will be 1/35 to 1/6000,so the members can build whatever they wish for scale.
with it running 10 months ,that should be long enought for even Mark to do a build.
and with all the new 1/350 and 1/700 ships coming out,it should be an intresting campaign.
i think as the person suggesting this campaign,i should be the build leader,But if some one wants to be the build leader that is fine with me.
i can think of 2 people who would be great as the build leader.
please let me know what you all think about this.
cheers,
Bruce

hey Bruce,.. I was also thinking of re-surrecting the Pacific campaign, I can give you a hand if you wish, but I am an absolute rookie here

Do you want a Pearl Harbor campaign to run with the aviation one, or a Pacific war, or both? maybe we can list the possibilities and gauge interest? Whatever you think, I can be your XO

hello James,
what i was thinking is that YOU will be the campaign leader and i will be the XO.you are ready to run a campaign, and with Gunny,Skipper,Golden Pony, and myself backing you up,you CAN do it.I know you can!!!
the Aeroscale Pearl Harbor campaign starts July 26,2008 so that is way to early.
the Armor campaign ends June 2 2008,so that is out.
i think that if other site modelers want to join in this campaign ,then we will have to decide if it is OK.right now i think it should be just a ship campaign, but that is up to everyone to decide.
cheers,
Bruce

Bruce,

The Aeroscale Pearl Harbor campaign is for all the sites. I'm signed up for it with my USS Ward.

hello Kenny,
i was trying to fill in a open space at the end of 2009,i was also trying to get James to run the campaign. he is ready to take the plunge.i have been thinking about entering the Aeroscale campaign, with a 1/48 Kate torpedo plane, but i am not sure if i have enough time for it.
But you are right it is an all site campaign,so maybe we might push it back to 2010.that will give us a 2 year gap for the same campaign.
i am hoping other members will put in their thoughts on this campaign and when to start it
thanks for reminding that the Aeroscale campaign is a all site campaign.
cheers,
Bruce

Hi guys!

Well, I'm all for new campaigns, but as Ken has pointed out, our air-buds are having the same type of campaign, as a network/site-wide campaign, and right now, I wouldn't want to schedule the same scenario here at MSW...but as Bruce has stated, down the line, I don't see a problem with running this subject matter...

hello Mark,
i agree, lets keep thinking about it and maybe do the campaign for Dec 7 2010.
this will give us time to get a really good out line for the campaign.
so,lets all think about it and get suggestions for it.we have alot of time to get the campaign going.
cheers,
Bruce

I also joined the aero-side of Pearl Harbor....

Let me think a bit more, but I am ready to (attempt) to run a GB centered around "Pacific War". But I agree that we should skip PH in the meantime... Ill get back to you all

Ok, I browsed around a bit, came up with a laundry list of potential Pacific-based GBs and some comments:

General Pacific, by era:
- WW2
- Korea
- Vietnam
- Cold War - no, because a Cold War GB already running

By Ship Type:
- Carriers - Original idea was carriers
- BBs
- Cruisers - No, cruiser GB about to start
- Small vessels - destroyer GB in progress, different era
- Torpedo boats - No, GB in progress already
- Subs
- non combatants - GB in progress already/recently finished?

By battle:
- Midway
- Marianas, Java, Guadalcanal, Coral sea, Leyte, etc - not including Amphibious, thats part of Gator GB

By Build type:
- Camo type
- waterline only
- Japanese consortium waterline series kits

Others:
- Ships sunk by subs/others?
- Ships not usually built - to build rarer variants, but maybe too close to "Sister Ships" idea?

no Pearl Harbor for now

---
I am leaning towards carriers who served in the Pacific during WW2, or maybe subs. Specific battle has the added factor of the research involved to correctly "date" a particular kit. Also leaning towards an "earlier" date (start 2008, ending late 2008, early 2009).

comments?

hello James,
my vote would be a Carriers through History.which would mean ,any Carrier built ,no time limit.which means you could build the USS Langley to the USS GHW Bush.any nations Carrier is allowed.i am ordering an Essex next month,so that will work for me.or maybe an RN Carrier.you might want to have a start time in Oct.and let it run for 10 months to a year.
cheers,
Bruce

Any of those would make a fine campaign.

Last year I did a Leyte Gulf campaign and posted a daily account of the battles. The response was very good. While I like the idea of a Pearl Harbor campaign, Joe (the campaign leader) makes this an annual event. He's a bit of a Pearl Harbor historian. I do think that a Midway or Marianas campaign would be a great idea for the fact that you open it up to everything from oilers to flattops.

My two cents.

Well, I think either a flattop or sub campaign, since its been a while for this two types. But, we'll have to see.

I am a little tight with time for anything extra at the moment.

After I finish my remaining armor builds my ship building will take off, unless my task master here loads me with a bunch of extra stuff.

Added after I saw Gator's post.

A Midway campaign would be great. I think it would be nice to start it when the battle did June 4, but this year might be tight. Something that would include more than warships would be a good way to go. Carriers down to the oiler.

*adding my 2 cents to the pot*

Ok, seems we have (sort of) marrowed down to:

Pacific carrier (ww2 or all time)
Pacific sub
individual battle: not PH (in progress, maybe next year with joe); not Leyte (was done last year)
Midway?? I like this one.... for sure we can't start June4/5 too tight....

some info to chew on in the meantime:

http://history.navy.mil/faqs/faq81-1.htm

As Jim/goldenpony mentioned, plenty of choices as what to build:
USA/allies
http://history.navy.mil/faqs/faq81-5.htm
IJN/IJA
http://history.navy.mil/faqs/faq81-6.htm

if you want something besides midway:
World War II-Asiatic-Pacific Theater 1941-1946
http://history.navy.mil/faqs/stream/faq45-21.htm
http://history.navy.mil/biblio/biblio1/bibli1aw.htm

I like the Midway idea, I can even build my AccMin SBD Dauntless on the side

I also agree that the start day wont be anytime soon, but in 2008

ideas, suggestions, comments??

Seems like we have a WW2 Pacific "battle"-centric, multiple-type ship GB in the works?

Midway?
Guadalcanal?
others????

should we start "counting" people and setting up potential dates?

how about Pacific War 1941-1945.any battle, ship, sub, etc allowed.only battle disallowed is Pearl Harbor.if this get off the ground, i am going to do a 1/350 Destroyer on Radar picket duty, being attacked by Kamikazes.
i do not know about all of you but the possiblities are endless.
balls in your court,James.
cheers,
Bruce
