This is nautical and Sci-Fi, but I think a great example of presentation and great little dio - the explosion and the effect on the water are very impressive:

That is very neat. I am guessing it is 1/700. Looks like an ode to "War of the Worlds."

Yep, that's what it is. In Wells' original novel, the Martians run into a bit of setback when they come up against the HMS Thunder Child, a torpedo ram. She rams one of the tripods and destroys it and then although destroyed, takes a second down with her.

Based on the lyrics written on the base of the dio, this scene depicts the War of the Worlds musical, where the Thunder Child is a Pre-dreadnought and opens fire on the Martians. It also gets sunk eventually.

BTW, I'll be doing a dio with some interesting effects for my MSW contest entry...

Hi Bruce, ya, def very wild!

Dade - You've got a nice site, great stuff. Esp. love the paint and damage of Sturmhaubitze(StuH 42). have you posted any of that at the sister site Armorama?

Yes, a very cool idea and concept, and some great modeling, as well....smoke and fire are nearly impossible to replicate, and both are demonstrated quite well here in this dio....love to know his methods and painting....thanks for sharing, Wink!.....looking forward to seeing your ideas come alive too, Dade...

Thanks for the kind words! Actually, no, I haven't posted anything on Armorama, but I'm a regular on Aeroscale where I'm probably best known for this little scene that also features flame...

Mark, I'll reveal my wacky plan on the first day of the contest. I want it to be a surprise!

It looks like you could use expanding foam insulation to create the explosion.

Not to spoil the magic, but Kenny's right, that's the "smoke and mirrors" of the orig dio. But in addition to the idea, it's the execution. Both the orig dio and Dade's done well. (You're too clever by half, Kenny!)

Dade - with that excellent sky-blue background, have you thought of painting the support the same sky color? Both craft would really "fly"!

Something else that is very nice is the circular shockwave from the explosion. I think most people would have forgotten about the blast effect on the water.

Actually, I thinkit's much better than 'very nice'. Extremely well done would be a better description.Great dio of a passage in an even greater classic book. have always liked the name "Thunder Child".
Cheers!

Well said Rick! I didn't notice it at first, but then bang! Pow! (puns intended!) Really the sort of detail we all love, and so well executed. A lot of great water has been shown on this site, and I must say, tho aircraft, Dade's dio is also awesome. (Aren't aircraft just flying boats?)
