Hi All,
I am new to Armorama, was put on to here by my good LCM freind Alan McNeilly.
I am currently building a diorama of an LCM and want to make some rope netts/cargo ladders etc.
I really wanna give tying these knots a go using rope from Artesania, my only problem is, I have no idea how to tie any of these knots. Any help, links to guides/instructions etc would be great.
Glen

Ahoy Glen,
Welcome to Model Shipwrights mate!
Sounds like a nice project, my friend, here's a couple links to some cool knot-tying sites...
Knots 1
Knots 2
My best advice would be for you to gather as many close-up images of these ladders in use in the time frame that you are portraying, and then give it a go!
I've personally tied a few of these myself, and the process is not difficult, (unless you're working in a very small scale
)...basically, you will need to start by making a diagram to scale of your ladder, cutting as many lengths of rope that you will need to weave your ladder, both crosswise, and lengthwise (leave plenty of length to compensate for each knot tied), and lay them out on a flat surface in the fashion that the ladder will be formed.
Then tie each knot individually on each line as you go, both crosswise and lengthwise...you may want to put a dab of white glue on each knot to make stay of the knot as well...the key note is to plan the ladder layout, and work slowly...let us know how you make out!
Cheers,
Mark
PS-I have also put together an article on making your own rope bumpers that will also accentuate your LCM, you can check it out here...
PSS- If you want to see some fine, pre-made rope nets, check out Thachweave Products...killer stuff, man.......

Hey Glen,
I know that Alan used something like this to make his cargo nets and rope ladders.
Scrim Face Veil Scarf
Just use white glue to stiffen it up a bit and then paint.

Hi Mark,
thanks for the reply and the links. I wasn't able to find any knots for the cargo ladder/netting though. I also couldn't tell you what the name of knot used is either.
Will give your bumbers a go for sure. Didn't realise there was that much work involved!
Hi Gator, Will look into the scarf, spoke to Al last week and he said he used an old army scarf.
