Does anyone know of a kit available for the Iwo Jima class LPH? My brother served on the USS New Orleans (LPH-11) in Vietnam and I would like to make a model of it for him.

I know the LCC's were built on the same hull, but it seems like there would be a lot of scratch buliding to turn an LCC kit into a proper LPH. Any thoughts on that idea?

Gunny -

Thanks. I know my brother will love the model when i finish it.

Now all I have to do is convince my wife that this is a worthwhile expenditure...especially since she hassles me about the size of my relatively small stash at every opportunity.

Hey, no problem, Dave...I think it's definitely a worthwhile project, as a memorial to the days of service that our boys and girls gave to the cause for our freedom....Semper Fi, mate....

Mark -

I think my wife appreciates the value of the commemoration. We met when i was in the Marines and she was a Navy Nurse. We both come from Sea Service families as well. My dad was a Navy Corpsman with the 1st MarDiv on Guadalcanal and then on up the Solomons. Her daddy was a Marine fighter pilot who was CO of a Corsair squadron in the Pacific. Her mother was also a Navy Nurse.

My problem is that when I returned to the hobby, I decided to try to build a model of each type of aircraft her father flew as a memorial to him. Naturally, I began to purchase kits faster than I could ever build them.....(just to make sure i could get my hands on a rare kit when i wanted it, of course). Then I decided to also build a model of each of the artillery pieces that I used when I was in the Marines. Again more buying of kits.

Now my stash is "underfoot" in her view....in my view it is simply stored in a convenient manner. As I said, I have a bit of a sales job to do. Of course, it might help if I would get off my butt and actually finish a build or two.....but as a colonel I used to work for always said, "Everything in moderation, particularly urgency!"

Maybe I can have the kit delivered to my office???

Thanks, Gator. I may give it a try!

I wonder if she gives the death penalty for "buying just one more kit"?

I found out last night that she does at least consider the death penalty.......

I should have never taught her how to do a Summary Court Martial! I don't think she got the part where I told her that the death penalty...or even a BCD...wasn't part of the Summary Court punishments.

My bad!!!
