hello all,
i have a ship decal that is a dark blue background and has 48 stars on it.what do you call it?i have no idea what it is and what it is used for.

Hi Bruce

That flag is called the "Jack".
In the portuguese navy at least, it is used on the bow flag pole, only when the ship is docked in a harbor or when at anchor. It also shows that the ship bearing it is weapons ready. I guess that in the USN has the same meaning.

Thats exactly what it is. Since it si a 48 star jack, it must be a WWII ship.
