Is anyone aware of which aircraft will be included in the 3 decker Akagi? Timeline is 1927 to 1934. Aircraft for this time period should allow for Mitsubishi 1MF1 to 5 and later the Nakajima A1N1 and A2N1 fighters and possibly the Type 13-3 Carrier Attack Aircraft, Mitsubishi 2MT1 to 3MT2 ( later redesignated B1M1 to B1M3).
This time period saw the Akagi with both the open hangars and the enclosed hangars, something tells me that Hasegawa will stick to the enclosed version. I can see some aftermarket company releasing the full open hangar option in P.E., which would also entail a full hangar... the possibilities are interesting.

Reading some history on the 3 decker, modellers should be aware that the middle flight deck was only 49 feet long and could only allow small fighter aircraft to take off, such as the A1N1. The lower flight deck was 75 feet long (an extention of the lower hangar deck) and could accomodate larger aircraft, such as the torpedo bombers. The 3 decker Akagi could accomodate up to 60 aircraft, 4 squadrons of 12 planes and a spare 12 planes.

With all this in mind, I'm planning on modelling the Akagi along side the Hosho in a late 1920's vignette.... anyone else planning on building this fine ship?

I have it pre-ordered from Hobby Link Japan. Whether I'll ever build it, I don't know.

Hi Rui,

Have a look at the parts breakdown of the show in Japan, it is not the set you have. Both fighter and attack aircraft are biplanes, seems like two sprues with six planes per sprue for a total of 12 planes,... which is why I ask the question, as I need replacements for the planes in Fujimi's Hosho.

Having had a closer look at the 3 decker, I can only hope that Hasegawa offers their box art as a print, this would look fantastic matted and framed....

Indeed, but I guess I can use some of them... at least the torpedo
On the new Akagi triple decker, they show 6 planes on one of the sprues (three fighters + three torpedo), so I am guessing two of these sprues will be included to get the air-wing on the deck as shown.

Or eventually there will be a separate set for the air-wing?

I'll be watching Hobby Search to see if PitRoad has any new 700th scale aircraft on the way. They (and HLJ) are usually first in notifying the public with new releases.

Here is an interesting 3D CG book on the Akagi I just picked up. It has fantastic CG drawings of both the 3 decker pre war and war time version. HLJ has them in stock, highly recommended.

Hi All,

Oh yeah, I am going to be looking for the Akagi when she comes rolling out. Of the eightteen Air Craft Carriers the IJN fielded, she has to be one of the ones that I would most like to get my hot little hands on. I do have six of them in the stash so there should be room for one more at least.

I just checked my Hobby Link Japan account and it said the 3-deck Akagi was in stock! I had it preordered. I hope it ships soon.

Freetime still has thiers listed as pre-order. If they had it listed otherwise I might just break my "no driving vow" and head to Atlanta this weekend to get one.

But alas, I will be a good boy and stay home. Besides I have work to do.

Excellent news,...

I recieved an e-mail stating that my 3 decker Akagi has been shipped! along with Fujimi's third set of P.E. (deluxe) for the Kongo. Given the usual shipping time, it should arrive mid next week.

Lucky dogs.

I did get in my regular Akagi Friday, but did not get a pre-order in on the 3 decker.

I have the most fantastic project right in my head, but I just can't seem to get my darn "Honey-do" list any shorter. I knock off 6 items and there are 8 more on the bottom.

Maybe if I drink more coffee I can get by with less sleep!?!?
