My wife surprised me the other day by actually suggestion a modeling project. Her late father worked at Newport News Shipbuilding for over 40 years and one of the things she kept was a plaque he was given at retirement which showed two ships on which he did significant work at both ends of his career. She thought it would be nice to do a model of each one to accompany the plaque. (I also have a coin he received the day the CVN-65 Enterprise was launched which is displayed with that model).

To save some space I thought I'd try 1/700 for a change. The first is easy to find, specifically CV-9, Essex, but the other seems to be a bit of a problem. Does anyone make the Virginia Class in 1/700 (or any other scale?)

Ahoy, Tom!
I've seen some large scale Virginia Class (CGN-38 to CGN-41) kits for R/C use, and JAG has a 1/700 USS Virginia, CGN 38 as well...

VIRGINIA CLASS CGNs...

JAG Produces probably the best resin kit of all of the CGN class in 700 scale.

I also have a photo CD that includes not only the TICONDEROGAs, but has file pictures on all the USN CGNs. including many photos never seen before and in higher resolution than on the web...... you may visit me at www.stillmotionsphotographics.com
