About to paint up my Tirpitz wood decking. Tamiya's recommendation of XF-78 - "Wood Deck Tan" is an ugly taupe (mushroom or grey-purple) color and doesn't look like any kind of wood, weathered or otherwise, that I can imagine. Several sites with pix of shipyard-commissioned models, other sites with great pix of completed amateur jobs - totally professional quality - show various deck colorations, most of them attractive and plausible. What are member's favorite paint mixes or brand colors for such a job; German WWII DKM capital ship?
I know there is no one 'right' answer, but some are better than others! A nice simple warm tan that looks like marine-issue wood would be great.
Cheers.

Just a suggestion. You might want to ask at Alex Glass's site:
http://marinewerft.foren-city.de/
They do a lot of research on the Bis & Tirp
It is a German site, but Alex is fluent in English
I do carry a very nice Teak colour from WEM.

Good; thanx. I note your WEM paints are "coming soon", per your site. I'll try some - if you can supply a paint ship sample? WEM themsleves list lots of graus and a rot but no wood colors that I can see. ?

Okey Dokey..but one question for you or others: were German WWII ships (Tirpitz in particular here) decked in teak or in some other wood?

hey Stephen,
I am finishing up a Tirpitz right now, and I used the White Ensign "teak" color for the deck. Well...mostly. It looked a bit too light to me, so I mixed in a bit of Model Master "military brown" to get it where it looked close to the color pics of models I have seen and liked.
I'm sure if you want a 'correct' color, just go with the straight WEM teak. It seems well-researched, and I like everything I've bought from them.
