Forgive me all if this has been asked before:
I am detailing Trumpeter's 1/144 scale Kilo Class boat, intending to model the sub submerged and underway. Does anyone know if the mooring bollards retract into the hull when the boat is underwater? Probably a small detail to ask about, but I do wonder...
Thanks for the look...

Hi Jim
Yes they do, as most soviet subs (and other nations) since the 40's*, so that the acoustic signature of the vessel stay as low as possible, so everything that can make noise, "goes inside" when not needed
Glad you asked, and can we take a peek at your kilo sub?
PS*: the typ VII-C u-boats had this system already - don't know if manual or automatic

Thanks Rui! And, yes, I'll take some pictures of the boats I'm working on and post here in the thread.

Can we take that as a promise for a future "On Display" feature(s) as well of these, Mr. Lewis?

Okay - then I'll concentrate on useful photos for On Display use!
Now - I'm having a bit of a challenge finding the Trim and Ballast Tank Vents on the bottom of the Hull. All the drydock photos I've seen of Type 636 and 877 (which I'm modeling) are really, really dark under there. It is correct to assume the Kilo does actually have bottom vents, right?
