Here is a great place to start

Ship Camoflage

You might also take a look at Senior News Write Kenny's site. He makes masks for painting USN ships.

Hi Rob,

You could also try the Floating Dry Dock, they have two booklets out on the subject with the colors named as well as patterns. White Ensign Models makes paint matches that are pretty darn close as well as Model Master Acrylic paints if you can find them. Check around on some of the sites that are featured here in the shops list and you should be able to find what you are looking for.

Hi Rob. I help Randy with the ShipCamouflage.Com site mentioned above. Randy sells White Ensign paints, which are matched to the colors of the time. Randy's not the only one that sells them, and PollyScale also has *some* of the colors matched as well in their acryl line.

While weathering may make some colors closer in appearance, the FS system you see used now came about after the second world war so anyone who states words to the effect of "Navy Blue is the same as FSxxxxxx" either doesn't know what they're talking about or doesn't care about accuracy.

We've been pulling over camouflage design sheets from the Navy Historical Center into the ShipCamouflage.Com database based on ship class (I work on one class at a time) but we don't have all of them posted. Another site you might want to try out if you're looking for a specific design listed in the database that we don't have posted yet us this Nautilus Models page which links to many of the design sheets (but not all) on the Navy Historical center as well. NHC is currently being throttled and is slow, but it is another option.
