I think "(pp)" means "between perpendiculars" but that's about all I know. Exactly what is this measurement?

Length between perpinticulars, often abbreviated as p/p, p.p., pp or LBP is a term describing the length of a ship.

Many thanks! I actually checked Wikipedia for "ship length" and "length (pp)" and got endless lists of hits. I've copied the diagram and will print it out for future reference.
