I've pretty well finished this build, just have to add a bit of deck clutter. Added to the stock kit were the Fujimi super detail set, replaced all 25mm triples & doubles and 12.7 high angle guns, plus searchlights with Veteran Model pieces, replaced all ships boats with Hasegawa after market set. Beautiful kit, definitely had no problems with gaps with deck/ hull and superstructures/ deck .

NICE build Kym!
Can I request a batch of images to be sent to me for an "On Display" feature when you're 100%?

Heh, is that supposed to be a shot across my bow...? I'm glad to know that from what you're saying and the other guy over in my build that apparently I have the exception with my example and not the rule. Last night I came across another mishap that I'll be posting.

A question- that's some pretty serious bowing up at the fore and aft where there are gaps between the waterline and water-- what's causing that?

Kudos on winning the "race".

Dade, after waterlining it, I dry-fitted the deck and did find some small gaps between the deck and hull, but customized (slightly shortened) the spreader/ stiffeners in that area. It was probably a lot easier with the hull cut in half. Once I was happy with the fit, I added the base. As for the superstructure to deck, no problems at all apart from a few of the locater slots being a bit tight.

That's the base of the dio. I only used 3mm MFD on top to keep it light, but obviously not enough cross supports underneath to stop the slight wave appearance that has started to appear. But it's not the base that the Kongo will be set on anyway.

No race mate, I've been sitting on the nearly completed model for a couple of weeks waiting for the Veteran Model parts to turn up. They did - the same day you posted your first Build Log.
The most glaring mistake I've made was forgetting to paint the flight deck Linoleum . One other thing I regret was not waiting for HLJ's restock of those wooden decks, they look awesome.
Watching your BLOG with interest.

That's a very good point with regard to fit. I had to trim down the stiffeners a little too. Having to worry about keeping the bottom solid (that was a MAJOR pain) was the biggest issue. Without having that pressure with waterlining, it frees you up more at the top to make a solid fit because there's no bottom seam to worry about. So from this, we can recommend people waterline their kit and avoid the fit issues!

Got it.

I didn't really mean with me per se, just in the general populace of those who are building the kit. I haven't seen anyone else post a complete build, so it's all you.

The fact that I had the kit for about a month in a half before I could even start on it, took me out of the hunt. But finishing commission builds (words can't describe how obnoxious that Nostromo was) and waiting for the deck and PE slowed my start drastically. That and the fact that with a build review, a lot of extra time is taken with pictures, explanations, and prep work.

I keep forgetting to ask this, but what are the dimensions of that base? It looks to take up an entire room!

That harbor is also fantastic. My hats off to you sir for possibly the most impressive dio to come across these pages in a very long time!

Hope that certian carrier comes out soon so you can finish.

Dade, here's an early pic of the entire base and will give you some idea of the size.

Hi Kym

Your IJN Kongo appears to be very good! And the Truk Lagoon diorama is going steady and really excellent!
Now you just "need" the A/C and lots of boats and figurines to compose and finish the scene!

BZ and please keep us posted!
