I'm working on my USS Fletcher DD992, and I have replaced the molded on anchor chains with actual chain. The chain is currently black. My question is, should it be black or should it be the deck color? In the reference photos I have it's hard to tell.

It should be black.
The chains are painted with different colors to tell the anchor party how much is left in the anchor locker. Most of teh chain is blakc until you get down to the tail end.
I forget the lenght carried by each ship, but being on a Kidd Class, we were very similar to the Fletcher.
The picture I have of our bow shows rusty chain. But it should be black.
