Here's my USS New Orleans. It's Trumpeter's 1/700 kit. I got some work done on my lunch break at work.
The weather deck is glued in place...
And I started on one of the turrets. I cut the barrels off at the blast bags. I've got a set of BMK brass ones on order from Battlefleet Models.

hello Kenny,
your 1/700 New Orleans looks just like my 1/350 San Fran.even the placements for the 5" AA Guns look the same.if you do the waterline version,be careful of the bottom plate.mine is about 1/16"off all the away around.
looking forward to your progress.
cheers,
Bruce

Hey Bruce,
Thanks for the heads up. Yes they do look similar. While they were both New Orleans class, the difference was the main turrets and some modifications in the superstructure, I think. I have test fit the upper hull to the waterline plate and the fit is fine.

Go Kenny Go!
I rather enjoyed working over the Baltimore and this one is just as excellent as a kit. I have it in the stash and will be watching to see how yours comes along so I can have a bit of reference when I do mine.

I lovw the look of the pre-war cruisres and am very interested in the Trumpeter offerings (I have Tamiya's Indy) but I'm wondering, are the main guns and blast bags molded onto the turrets?

Hi John,
The barrels and blast bags are one piece. The turret is another part.
Well, it seems in all of the mass confusion that my house is right now, I have lost the pe set to my Nawlins'. So, it's off the Pacific Front to order more.

Hi Kenny
I like what you have been doing there
The drilled portholes add a little bit more depth to the superstructure areas.
Also you could replace the propeller guards with PE or wire - it will look better than the plastic part (blob)
Keep up

Thanks Rui. I've got the WEM pe set for the New Orleans that I will be using for this build.

Hi Kenny,
Your Nola is coming along great. I would drill out the "eyeholes" on her bow to make them stand out. Start with a small drill bit, then a larger one to complete the effect.

Always nice when you can start to dry fit the big stuff together and she starts to look like a ship. Lookin' good!

Progress for today.
I've cleaned up all the seams and removed the molded on chains. The anchors have been attached and the turrets have been built and brass barrels installed.
A midship, I've got the funnels done and waiting for pe, the searchlight platform is taking shape and the catapult structures are glued in place.
The aft turret is completed with brass barrels installed.
Here is a shot in front of one of the photo backgrounds I've been playing with.

Looking great Kenny.
I have been tempted to open up that big old hangar door on my Astoria kit and build up an interior when I get around to working it over. It seems like a great place to add a little detail.

Great work Kenny!
New Orleans is looking great. The turned barrels really make a difference, and the PE searchlight framed tower looks perfectly spotless.
