MSW Senior Editor Rui Matos reports:

Ten years after their start, AMBA (Associação de Modelistas do Baixo Alentejo) - or in english, Model Association of Baixo Alentejo (a region on south Portugal)) and the "Clube de Modelismo da Escola Básica 2, 3 Mário Beirão" (a model club in an prep/secondary school, as an extra activity) gave a big leap and made their first modeling event: The BejaModelShow!

Rui, nice stuff! That sunken midget sub is really great. I liked the Titanic in a bottle, but what's up with the ship with the "Ferreira Porto" on the sail?

Hi Jim,
The midget sub, isn't a midget sub, but a 1/400 Typ II-D U-boot from Mirage
The Ferreira Porto boat is a Barco Rabelo, a kind of boat that is (was) used in the Douro River to transport the Porto Wine filled barrels from the producing area to the storage Caves in Oporto.
It is still one of the touristic attractions of Oporto (the wine and also the annual regatta of the remaining boats - about 20 from different producers/sellers).

More info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Port_wine

You also have a 1/72 plastic model from the extinct Ocidental Replicas, still available here and there

Hope this helps,
Rui

Rui,

Thanks for the info. That sure looked like a midget sub, but I'll take your word on it. And that "wine boat". Cool. Is the wine any good? Wonder if I can get it here in the US. Always on the look out for good wine.

Yes, it is a very good wine!
But it is not that kind to go with the meal - before or after, since it is a sweet wine
For red and white wines, Douro and Alentejo region wines are definitely Portugal bests!

British guys enjoy it a LOT

Good old Portuguese red.
Drank a little of it in my much younger days.
Now I just a coffee and Chamomile tea dude.

Nice ships, thanks for posting them.
