Personally I'm not terribly keen on hunting but afterall these are photos from a bygone era. Might be an idea for a diorama :

If the date stamp with the pictures is correct, it's most unusual to find a U-boat in September 1943 having the time to hunt and catch a polar bear in daylight, particularly in the Atlantic. I wonder if polar bears frequent North Cape?

I have an article somewhere deep in my archive regarding a weather station they found up in Labrador Canada that was set up by a U-Boat crew. Id imagine there wasnt alot going on up there at that time. For some reason I think Canada was unaware of the U-boat threat on our doorstep. Not to mention that area is VERY large with VERY few people..Although Im just guessing regarding our country being unaware.I know the sinkings in the Gulf of St.Lawrence off of Quebec City caused quite a stir.

Thanks for the interesting info Jim. To tell the truth I don't know much about U-Boote, I hadn't even wondered what it was doing out there. I pity the polar bear though, it probably didn't have much of a sporting chance being in the water. Nevertheless, it adds a whole new meaning to the term "Grey Hunters" . I built a 1/72 Revell U-Boot some 2 years ago but it's still waiting for a suitable crew and a coating of paint....

That could also be off Greenland. There were German weather stations located there during the war. Of course having it be off Canada would not be out of the question. Those darn U-boas went just about where ever they wanted during the war.

Very interesting pictures either way.
