Hey folks, I'm sort of a model dabbler, I drift from aircraft to armor etc, and I'd like to get some recommendations on a carrier.

This would be my second ship build (first was the 1/72 S-boat ). So a kit that went together fairly easy would be better than a super cool kit that needs alot of extra work.

Ive been thinking about building a modernish (Vietnam onward) carrier for a while. I'd really like to build the current fit Lexington (only carrier I've visited so far), but there's not kit for that in 1/350. Other thoughts are the Intrepid, but I'd really want a 1/350 SR-71 to sit on the deck.

So, I'm thinking either a carrier that I could build as a museum ship (with the various display aircraft, etc., or an active carrier and I can add to as I go (I figure I'd get the kit and maybe the PE shortly, then after completing the build work on picking up the deck stuff if it isn't in the kit.

--- sorry that this was more of a rambling thought than a question.

Thanks guys,
John

Hi John!

In the larger scales, it sounds like you will have to go for a nuke (Enterprise or Nimitz-class) which are well-represented in 1:350 or find an OOP kit of a conventional big-deck carrier like Forrestal or a modified Essex (the famed 27C builds) in an odd box scale. Revell recycled its 27C molds to produce Lexington and Wasp, among others. Those old kits will require a bit of work to make them stand out, but for now they are the only games in town for larger scales.

Good luck!

It's looking like an Enterprise or Nimitz then I actually think my local Hobby Lobby has one of those. Off to print out a 40% off coupon

Thanks,
John
