I've been playing with one of the PBMs that came with the 1/350 ISW USS Mackinac AVP-13 resin kit. These aren't the final display bases for this one. I'd like to make one with it landing or taking off from the water. I have sanded the bottom of the hull in preparation for this. Although, I may wait to incorporate into the PT Boat Tender dio that I am planning in 1/350.

Thanks, Gentlemen!

I thought that some of you might like it.

No props, of any type, came with the kit. They are made from stiff plastic packaging material that so, many items come in, nowadays. I used a paper punch to cut them out, and I got lucky with the diameter.

Here it is next to the 1/350 PT Boat Tender (AGP) that I am converting from an ISW Seaplane Tender (AVP) kit.

I've taken a technique from Jim Baumann and added some prop spray to my 1/350 PBM-3 Mariner. Port side done, stbd side to go.

Wow, that spray looks awesome and really adds a lot of action to that scene. Is there a writeup of that technique somewhere?

Thanks, Dan!

Jim Baumann talks about using clothes dryer lint (instead of cotton balls, etc.) somewhere online. He made a couple of small scale flying boat models and are featured on his MWS gallery or in a "Feature", there, someplace.

Here is the finished product.............

This is the Iron Shipwrights' Resin 1/350 PBM-3 Mariner that came with the USS Mackinac AVP-13 Small Seaplane Tender kit. Jon also sells them separately and he has PBY Catalina's too.

I replaced some of the supports for the wing floats with brass rod otherwise it is out of the box, with the exception of the propellers. (there are no props in the kit) I also add brass rod for the machine guns.

Thanks to Jim Baumann for his fine examples of small scale flying boats and their water effects. I have used his water mist technique, here.

The water is Plastruct's "clear choppy water" plastic sheet that I spray painted the top of with Model Master Dark Sea Blue.
