I received the Academy 1/800? Kitty Hawk for Christmas and have a few questions about how to finish it. Are there any tips on how to finish the flight deck? I want to have it portrayed during flight operations but I have a feeling that the instructions would lead me astray in this endeavor. I also would like to have the deck look well used, tire marks from landing/launches and just looking like a real deck might as I do not want to finish it like the instructions would have me do, I think it's to neat for what I want to do. Also I would LOVE to be able to have the colored shirt crewmen on deck, for fuel handling, muntions, and so forth, but is this even an option in this scale? I havent been able to find figs that would work, maybe I just havent been looking in the right places. Any and all ideas would be great. I'm trying out the aluminum foil for water method so I have a little time till I am actually to the point of finishing the deck, but I would love to hear any tips that may be known.

Hey Josh,

When it comes to reference photos of modern US warships, sometimes it's best to go to the source. The US Navy's website has photos of the Kitty Hawk dating back to 2001 and they are in very high resolution. You can find them here.

As far as getting a crew for your Kitty Hawk, I don't think that using 1/700 figures should pose too much of a problem. Eduard has a set of pre-painted figures for carriers. Try here.
