A very nice review from the Senior, I have some of the generic rivets from Archer, very usefull and high quality.

Only thing I find missing in this speciffic set would be the numbers for the depthmarks - they were often welded on and would look great as raised transfers.

Now you have to do a 1:72 VII you know

Cheers/Jan

That is one interesting set from Archer. I have used a different set of thier transfers and they were great.

Thank you for the review Rui!

I guess I'm now officially a "rivet counter" LOL

FWIW, the idea for doing this kit came about from my U-673 build.
I used the U-brass set to correct the numerous kit inaccuracies, especially in the bow.
As such I lost a lot of rivets, and had no clue how I was going to replace them.

The original Archer rivets were available in the right size (0.011") but the fixed pitch was wrong for the U-boat; I would have had to apply each rivet 1-by-1. So we devised the set so that you'd have strings of rivets of the correct pitch for any section on the U-boat. Cut the length of rivets you need (of the correct pitch), apply, and voila! Rows of rivets replaced in 1 easy step.

When I further document my U-673 build on my site, I'll definitely include the "before" and "after" pics.

Cheer all !

It seems like postmen are all alike around the world!

Anyway, a most welcome addition to sub modeling. I hope they will produce more items for the Gato and Lindberg I-boats, too!

Thanks guys, but you should thank Archer and especially Glenn for having all the trouble!
The Typ VII-C U-boot is in my stash... I wonder when it reaches it's turn, though...

Rui

I started to replace the lost rivets on the bow of my U-673 using the Archer Surface Detail Set for the U-boat.

I can honestly say that all the time & effort spent on creating this set was well worth it!
Wow... it's so easy to replace the rivets.

1. Determine the area where you are going to put the new row of rivets.
2. Look on the layout diagram to determine which "rivet group" to apply.
3. Measure the length of the rivet row that you need.
4. Cut out the appropriate length of rivets from the appropriate "rivet group" on the decal sheet.
5. Apply the rivet row like a regular waterslide decal.

I have updated my U-673 build site.
Go to the "Rivets" page.

Probably one of the coolest "special patterns" included in the set is the 1-piece pattern for the forward edge of the bow... check it out!

FWIW, I finally took the time to write my own personal review of the new Archer 1/72 U-boat Super Detail Set. It follows Skipper's product review on page:
