Coral Sea was a very positive learning experience for the US Navy when it came to carrier warfare. It was after Coral Sea that the US took on the practice of draining avgas fuel lines and filling them with inert gas on board the carriers. It was here to that the initial idea of a coordinated air attack was formed.
