Hello All,
I am doing a small Dio of a SBD landing on a U.S. Carrier.
The Plane is 1/48 scale and I need to know what size the individual deck planks were for example 6" by 8' or 10" by 20'?
Thanks for all your help,
Cheers,
Bruce

Hi Bruce!

According to measurements taken from the Anatomy of the Ship volume on the Intrepid, there was five feet between the metal tie down strips. My best count on the number of wooden planks over this length is 12, so that makes planks with a five inch chord.

In 1/48 scale, such planks would be roughly 3/32 and 1/10 of an inch. I'm not sure about the planks' thickness, but other than ripped up or damaged planking, only the tops would be visible in any case.
