Just picked up the Tamiya I-16/I-58 IJN sub kit in 1/700 waterline. This is my first try at 1/700 kit and by doing some research and the size, it seems to be a great scale to work on and collect other ships in that size. I didn't know that a large amount of model ships are at that scale.

The area I need help in are as follows.
1. Are the deck of both subs wood planking?
2. Just not good right now with an airbrush and should I go with spraying primer and then painting by brush and weathering by brush also on such
a small scale?
3. What is a good link to find more 1/700 ship models? My LHS is limited of this scale.

Any other help would be great.

Thank You
Sam

Not sure about the decks.

I spray mine with primer from a rattle can and then brush the ship. I also found some Kure grey in a Tamiya rattle can, so that will let me skip a step. Just make sure your paint is well stirred and that it has not thickened up on you.

I get a great deal of my 1/700 ships from Freetime Hobbies.

I will look into the decks and see what I can find. I am planning to be building dio with a couple IJN subs and a tender later this year, so I guess I need to know this as well.
