I was so impressed with the M4A3E2 that was displayed on Armorama a few days ago that I decided to get busy and build mine OOB. I did decide to try Mig's filter technique on this model. I have just finished putting the first filter on it and I have to say that it does seem to impart a certain something to the model. It is a depth or a luster of some type but it does add something. I will post some pics of my progress soon. Try the filter technique it you have not already done so it does work.

Here are photos of my M4A3E2 before I applied the first filter. The tank has been painted and a satin coat applied in preparation for the filters. I did experiment with enhancing the cast texture of the front and drilled the mounting holes in the bogie trucks. Other than those enhancements this model is OOB.

The filter technique is better explained by Mig and can be found in Rarities World on the Missing Links site. It seems to add depth and a sense of metal to the model. I will post additional pics of the filtered model.

It looks nice thus far. Did you intentionally go for the pre-shading effect?

Yes, I am experimenting with preshading on this model as well.

I used Model Master # 34087 as the base coat over flat back as the preshade color.

Very nice paint work Tankera1. Like the preshading. Show us pics when you get the filters applied.

Hi!
Great looking so far!
Iīll wait to see it weathered, in my opinion, thatīs what brings models to life....
Cheers

I just returned from four days of sailing, it's tough but someone has to do it. Anyway, I have made some additional progress on my M4A3E2. I applied filters, this was a first for me. I first applied a yellow filter (using oils) followed by a blue filter. The effect was very good. The yellow filter seemed to give some body to the olive drab and the blue filter gave a coldness to the overall color which seemed to reflect a metalic body. Today I gave the tank a coat of future. I will follow this with washes and further weathering. I am attaching some photos for critique or comment. I also preped the tools and mg's for metalizing.

It's looking pretty darn good so far. Very interesting to say the least. I like how it seems to naturally shade the OD. Hmm...
I think a how to article is in order for of us "filter impaired" folks. What do you think?
