SINGAPORE --- The Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) has awarded a contract, worth an estimated S$20m, to ST Engineering to provide education cum training services and a training ship to the RSN. In addition, ST Engineering will provide RSN with the use of a vessel for navigation and seamanship training at sea.

The three-year contract commences immediately with an option for another three years thereafter. The contract is signed with ST Education & Training, a wholly-owned subsidiary of ST Electronics, the electronics arm of ST Engineering.

Under this Integrated Training Workforce (ITWF) contract, ST Electronics' instructors will fulfil some of the RSN's training needs. These include instructional services, curriculum development and subject matter expert consultancy. The subjects will cov er a wide variety of professional topics spanning warfare, navigation, weaponry, communications, under-water systems, electronics, damage control and power generation. Also included are professional topics such as Bridge Resource Management, Safety and Quality Improvement. The training will be conducted for officers, officer cadets and all levels of warrant officers, specialists and full-time National Servicemen.

"This contract reinforces the strategic partnership between ST Electronics and the RSN. With ST Electronics' role in training its personnel, the Navy can more ably channel its resources towards its operational tasks," said SEAH Moon Ming, President, ST Electronics.

ST Electronics has been a strategic training partner of the RSN since 2002, when the ITWF was formed by a group of qualified and experienced ex-RSN instructors to work in the Navy's schools, training institutes and onboard RSN ships. RSN training requirements are stringent and demand specialisation. This training concept allows the RSN to retain and benefit from experience and knowledge within the institutions.

ST Electronics has been providing simulation systems and training services to its defence and commercial customers for over 20 years. It has supplied various training systems to the defence sector and provided a ship handling simulator for training Navy personnel. Its customers include the Singapore Police Coast Guard, the Indian Coast Guard and the Royal Brunei Navy.

The award of this contract is not expected to have any material impact on the consolidated net tangible assets per share and earnings per share of ST Engineering for the current financial year.
