Anyone interested in a Kaga How-to?

I've been wanting to write up another how to lately. I've thought long and hard and decided on scratchbuilding and painting a IJN Kaga Flight Deck using only five different evergreen styrene products. Yes that is right the photos you see here have no photoetch in them. Would anyone be interested before I do the whole thing? I figure once you study the how to you could easily apply it to make any 1:700 scale carrier deck. The first of at least a two part how to is almost done. The photos here really do not do the deck justice. Maybe I'll get the better camera out and retake them in a few days.

As a fellow scratchbuilder, I would be most interested in seeing your WIP, especially as I am planning on a 1:350 Kaga for next year!

Whoa!!! You need to be doing a feature with that kind of scratchbuilding in that scale! I was actually only going to do the how to on the Kaga flight deck only and not the whole ship since the hull portion would be the usual sand detail off, replace with photoetch, styrene, sprue etc. etc..... My deck remake should work for your Kaga in 1:350 though. Two styrene products are the key and Evergreen makes the larger sizes you will need for 1:350 scale. I'll be submitting the feature soon.

My future build will be a Kaga in 1/700. I could use all the help I can get.

The flight deck will be just fine, actually. With the carrier campaign on the books for next year, I'm looking forward to getting on with all sorts of flattops in 1:350, including the Taiho and Glorious. My Kaga dio will feature the oft-overlooked VT-6 attack at Midway, too.

The article has been submitted. I tried the same methods and materials and created a IJN Chuyo deck as well. I'm not really liking the dazzle paint scheme I did on the deck but the detail is still very high and impressive, at least for me anyway. I'm excited anyway. I've had a few older flattop kits with no PE upgrade in the stash and the flight deck redo has been holding me back on building them. I've tried the sand and scribe route on the kit's deck but my skills are not good enough to make evenly spaced 1:700 wood planking look even remotely good
