Hello All,

I'm building Revell's 1:240 HMS Campbeltown as the USS Buchanan (DD-131) in her late 1930s fit. Its been going well so far, but it has come time to work on the guns and what you get in the kit leaves a lot to be desired. All photos I've seen of the Buchanan have the guns shrouded in a half-turret sort of setup (sorry, I'm new to naval modeling and hence unfamiliar with much of the nomenclature).

Does anybody have scale plans for these turrets? Were they placed on all 4 guns, including the two guns amidships?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Ralph K.

I've got the Squadron book US Flush Deck Destroyers in Action. It has drawings of the four inch guns, but with no scale given. Two types of shield are shown, "Curved" and "Angled." If you want I can scan the drawing and email it to you. . The only picture of the Buchanan I found in the book has awnings rigged over the foredeck so you can't see which shield she had. The midships guns don't have any shield. You can't see the aft gun. Other pictures in the book show no shields on any of the guns except the foredeck gun, and not always even then.

Usually, only the forward gun was shielded. Here is a drawing, but you will have to do your own math to determine the size:

Hey Ralph!

I'm putting the finishing touches on a sister ship which became the HMS Stanley in 1:240 and one of my references is the excellent Anatomy of the Ship volume on the Buchanan/Campbeltown.

Please let me know if you need anything in addition to the gun info (like drawings on torpedo tubes, boats, depth charge racks, etc.) and I will photocopy all you need in 1:240 and mail it to you. Just send me your mailing address via PM.
