It was a fun review to write and I'm trying hard to resist plunging right back into another Kongo. Thanks for checking it out!

It is a very nice set and a good review. Your models always look really good Dade. As for doing another Kongo.... Could the set be modified for a Hiei or Haruna instead?

Thanks guys! Anthony, thanks for the kind words- coming from one of the masters! I've considered the "conversion" of this set too and may see what I can do. I really want to build the Kirishima... I even emailed Flyhawk to ask if they were doing a Kirishima set, but got an answer saying no, so we'll see...

Its a great detail set, pretty daunting though with all those parts! I've got my aoshimas hull together and some of the superstructure, looking good so far! Whats a good reference for the kongo with the railings, doors etc that the PE instructions dont show where to go? Gakken? I see HLJ have them again but not sure what else is out there.

The Gakken books are always great sources (it's what I used), but two newer books that will definitely come in handy are:
Kongo Class Battlecruisers

and Kageros' book

Thanks, the Kagero book looks quite good!
Any news on a wooden deck for the Aoshima version? It would be great if a certain japanese deck maker released one for it...

Shinsengumi did release a wood deck for Aoshima's Kirishima. But it may be possible to modify their deck for the Fujimi version to fit the Kongo... Hrmm...

I have the Fujimi Kongo deck......I think they are made by KA for Fujimi(?)
I was hoping it would work for the Fujimi Haruna....but it's a no go.....

yeah...I might paint the deck instead (dont want to stuff up a $100 deck!
 )
 )plus at the glacial speed I build there might be a deck available by the time I need it
