The USAAF commissioned and took delivery of eleven 158' Hoisting and Recovery ships between 1942-1944. All were built by the Sturgeon bay Shipbuilding & Drydock Co. of Sturgeon Bay WI. The hulls had a prefix of "HA." The purpose was the recovery of downed aircraft for salvage/re-fitting for service. There is very little in print about Army vessels and these were referred to only briefly in a Naval Institiute Press book on US Army ships published some time back. If you look at Ebay item # 290367568789 you will see a builder's model of an "HA" ship. I purchased this model and to facilitate its restoration seek any information on this class ship- photos/blueprints/drawings/equipment & technical manuals, input from anyone who served on a hoisting & recovery ship, what have you? Thanks to any responder for your time.
