The US Army Air Force commissioned eleven of these 158' vessels between 1942-1944. All were built by Sturgeon Bay Shipbuilding & Drydock Co. of Sturgeon Bay WI. Their purpose was recovery of downed aircraft for salvage/re-fitting/re-issue. The only book on US Army vessels, published some time back by the Naval Institute Press, mentions them only briefly. If you look at Ebay Item # 290367568789 it illustrates a builder's model of this type. I purchased the model and to facilitate its restoration seek photos/drawings/blueprints, technical/equipment manuals on this type, recollections from anyone who served on a Hoisting & Recovery ship, what have you? My thanks to any responder for your time.
