Well guys I'm off to a GREAT start for this Campaign. Poking around in a local toy shop and found the Airfix 1/72 Vosper that I want to build, and at the right price, so duly purchased and slotted into the stash until the time is right. A couple of days later, I thought I might just pop it open and check how it looks, never having built a ship model before, and inside the box I find the parts, instructions and decals for and Airfix 1/72 Air/Sea Rescue Launch. Hmmmm, not exactly appropriate. Back to the point of purchase and they have no more of the Vosper kits for me to inspect, so refund is given and back to square 1 we go !!

Never mind, if that's the worst thing that happens to me in this Campaign, I'll survive.

Cheers, D

Damian,

was it a mix up of instructions or wrong kit? Airfix Royal Navy Vosper MTB is kit # 5280, the RAF 63ft Rescue Launch is kit # 5281.

If you still interested in 1/72 scale motor torpedo boats, you can look into:

Revell German Schellboot S-100

Hi James. I checked the sprues and the decals along with the instructions, and it was the entire kit that was in the wrong box. I will make sure to check the contents before I bring the next one home.

Thanks for the links also, I will check them out.

Cheers, D

I was going to do a IJN Fabuki class destroyer for this campaign but I see everyone seems to be doing subs and pt boats. Have I got the wrong end of the stick here?

Hi, Allen!
No, your holding the stick at the right end. The destroyer is a multi-functional asset of every fleet, but the torpedo is certainly a primary weapon for a fleet destoryer.
With 3 triple launchers your Fubuki will be a highly welcome addition to the theme!
Cheers,
Guido

I think we are mostly doing subs and PT boats becuase they fit into so few campaigns. I know that is why I am doing my PT boats. I bought a kit of them a while back and this is the excuse I needed to pull them out of the stack and get them done.

For my part, I would say that IJN destroyers would qualify for the theme as the Imperial Navy saw the destroyer primarily as a torpedo platform first and foremost. They based their tactics around this assumption, perfected high-performance torpedoes, and even went to the trouble of incorporating reloads--something unknown on other navies' destroyers.

Ahoy shipmates,

I have just joined the campaign. I will be doing a submarine, the new
HobbyBoss Type VIIA uboat in 1:350 scale.

Unfortunately, it is not really a Type VIIA but I will attempt to render it
as close as possible to a representation of a Type VII A.

Please see my post on this kit in the Dockyard section.

Until later,
Cheers,
Joe

Gentlemen-

It's first of April and while I wait for Gunny to issue the official sticky campaign thread, I'd like to take to opportunity to thank you for signing up to my first campaign.

I hope it will be equally fun and educative for all of us. The success of the campaign is - as always - depending on your participation. So let us see your progress frequently and don't be afraid to rant and rave (within the guidelines of gentlemanly manner of cause). As they say: It's the mistakes we learn from the most.

With pleasure I see that a lot of new faces have joined our campaign, so here is our heartfelt Welcome. Those of you new to ship modelling, please feel free to ask your questions and ask for help with your project.

Now sharpen you knives and introduce you and your project with a short review.

Let the fun begin!

Cheers,
Guido
