I have been through many a retirement cermony and heard this Fair winds thing. I have always figured it to be a blessing of good luck that Ye shall be not perriled by a storm or wind too slack or too hard. Not that we use sails nowadays. The following seas explanation is something that I never got right before. I thought that it meant calm seas. Learn something every day...........Al

At one of the retirements I attended for a 2 star Admiral they explained the meaning, at length.

Since I had used it recently myself, I looked it up. The NHC put it nicely, so I used thiers.
