Here is an idea for a campaign that coincides with the 70th anniversary of the Dunkirk evacuation.

With Finewaterline coming up with so many kits to represent this event, it goes hand in hand to proposae a campaign that also recognises this point in history.

The input could be a ship that took place in the evacuation or it could be a small diorama it's up to you.

I fancy building a small beach scene with paddle steamer taking troops on board over a bridge of small boats - and, watch out! there are stuka around!

OK, who's up for this???

Peter,
I'd be happy to join this venture. Not yet sure of the subject but I'm ordering the Finewaterline kits as they are issued - so plenty of scope.

Peter,
Great idea, but I don't built boats/ships. If you were to include armor vehicles I'm sure you would get some of the Tank Head from over on the Armorama side. Dunkirk wasn't just the evacuation. There was a reason for the evacuation. Just my .02 cents.

Excellent Idea! This will be a great excuse to build the 'little ships' and those French super destroyers. Sign me aboard!

Hi Guido,
you'll need to find out who made the kit you require as we do not have a central dispatch point.
Best idea is to send an email to [email protected]

unfortunately, I am not able to awaken Finewaterline which is a shame as they must be losing a lot of sales for charity - nevertheless, follw Roy's link above - something must work......HUH?

And, well done, Mark, for putting in the link. There are people interested but find it difficult to navigate the system.

great idea... I found a list of the "Dunkirk Little Ships":

List of Dunkirk Little Ships

Bruce - a very partial list of military ships; I could not find a comprehensive list:

Royal navy destroyers of the G-, W-, B- and H- ,E - class seemed to have been involved.

German Type IIC U-boats, S- and E- boats.

French Bourrasque and Adroit class destroyers.

I am sure i will be corrected and edited
--

I have the 1:700 Tamiya "British Destroyer E Class"; I have to see if i can build it as the HMS Express , which was an E class but fitted as a minelayer. Was one of the first ships to arrive on scence and start evacuating.

Garth - correct me if I am wrong, but a quick look at both the 1/72 Revell British Vosper MTB (kit # 50840) and the Airfix Royal Navy Vosper MTB (kit # 5280), show both to be late MTB versions. Can you use either as a "base" to build MTB 102?

Thank you for your support, James, and I do beleive we are getting there but don't forget to sign up on the group build page otherwise we won't get there - we need 3 more enlist votes to proceed!

My idea is to make this more than an individual participating in a group build, and your references are exactly what I am looking for together with dio ideas.

For example, Google images - Dunkirk 1940 for various image ideas, also, I am using the John de S Winser books to see what small ships were involved.

On Finewaterline.com there is a range of Dunkirk ships to mark the event. I have bought a number of these, and will build as many as I can for the campaign. And, there will be a second pack of ships coming out TOMORROW! featuring a half dozen small ships.

I have mastered the paddle steamer Gracie Fields, and will be building that shortly however that will also be coming out through Finewaterline.com as soon as packaged.

Hopefully here we go...............
