Hi my fellow shipmodellers
I recently posted my version of iron shipwrights 1/350 HMS Dreadnought.
I used Jim Baumanns stunning model of the same kit for reference. Jim has chosen to do a waterline model rather than full hull. My model is rather shabby compared to his but it was as good as I could achieve at this early stage of my modelling career.
I note that Jim has depicted blast bags on the main armament. I have many pictures of this beautiful ship and have never seen one with blast bags fitted.
Any thoughts on this?
Also, can anyone help me with advice on how to show up the caulking on teak planked decks. Kostas is a master at this ,but every attempt I have made has been a distaster. I would really appreciate some " how to info" as I am about to commence HMS Repulse 1/350 by Trumpeter and want to get the decks looking real good.
Thanks everyone.

Thanks to Harry from BFM.... I might have missed this posting....

Dreadnought at various points of her career DID carry blastbags-- sometimes they were white, sometimes they were a darker brown/grey

herewith a couple of images off the net

Hi Jim
Thank you for your reply. What a great photo of this wonderful ship. Blastbags indeed.!!!
I am maybe your greatest fan.
I have only recently discovered modelling as a hobby, and my dreadnought is only my third model and my first attempt at resin ( bloody difficult I found).
I love your work and from what I have seen, you and Kostas lead the pack by the proverbial country mile.
I have learn't so much from reading your posts already.
Jim, I really want to learn how to produce realistic looking decks which highlight the caulking lines etc
Any advice you can give me would be really appreciated.
I would love to be able to chat with you on a regular basis because I could learn so much from you and I want to be as good as I can be.
Kindest regards
Colin

Your welcome, JB.

Colin,

Lifecolor makes a very nice set of acrylic wood colors CS-20.
They should be available in your area.
