hello fellow model makers,
here is my 1/72 HMCS Snowberry. saw the huge box at the hobby store for only $90 and thought i would take a try at ship building. usually build armour, have dabbled with cars and planes but never a ship. 8 months later here is the finished beast. have yet to build a base and cabinet for it, next on the to-do list i suppose. hope you enjoy.

happy modelling. mh

Wow! Quite a nice build. I really like the rust and weathering. You sent her on a long voyage and now she's back, much the worse for wear.

Good luck on the base and cabinet. That's a project in itself and worthy of a post somewhere on this site.

Very nice build, I like the weathering, looks beaten in a good way

A crew would look good on the bridge ?

I will suggest that you find a nice backdrop, shoot a bunch of pictures and submit a feature on it, would very much like to see more pics of it.

Cheers/Jan

Super looking build. The paintwork looks great and really like the timber areas. Would love to see more shots especially natural light if possible. Certainly would make a worthy feature in my eyes. Would not look out of place as a proffesional museum model.

Top work sir...8 months well spent

thank you one and all for the kind words on my Snowberry. the planking was done using a technique where i mixed oil paints with oil glaze very heavily diluted to create a translucent effect.

i am new here to the site, how does one submit for a feature? i am pretty handy with photoshop so i could do the background as was well suggested.

You've done an outstanding job on that kit.
A feature would be the icing on the cake.

That is very nice looking build of a kit that needs a lot of care to make it look good, and you have made it look very good. The XO would probably be shipped off at the next port of call but I love heavily weathered ships and these corvettes were not used in the most maintenance friendly areas. Top marks
cheers,
Julian

Was it an out of the box build?

i used a few pe brass sets from Great Little Ships from wales (great service, highly recommended) but couldn't afford more than the main gun, rear gun and support twin gun sets. did a bunch of scratchbuilding and detailing like door handles and carved oars from balsa planks. and tons of putty/sanding work. lots of scratchbuilt pulleys added too. this is the old Matchbox kit repackaged by Revell of Germany and it shows its age. but it was fun for a kit that cost me $90 CDN, though it used up 6 bottles of Light Sea Grey like it was scotch whiskey.

cheers, mh
