I stumbled across the following report in the national archives last year and thought it would be neat to post it on the anniversary of the event.... 68 years ago today the US fleet fought off a Japanese force bent on retaking Guadalcanal from the allies. Enterprise was hit by three bombs directly and probably had 4 near misses.
One fact I stumbled across while working on this I had not seen elsewhere was that a bomb landed just on the other side of the armor around the ready-service torpedo storage... had the armor breached and there been torpedoes present (the report doesn't say) I wonder how much different the war would have played out!
