Hello all fellow shipwrights i was looking through my LHS the other day and did not realise how many none military ships there are in model form and so many research and rescue craft there are from many manufacturers. My Proposal for a Group Build is that of a Search and Rescue Campaigne. There are many forms that this could cover from the RAF Rescue Launch,Coastgaurd ships and Aircraft to bring in some of the Aeroscale modelers also the RNLI and other SAR Craft from various nations around the world even ships and boats that are used today for Humanitarian Aid, support ships and Helicopters that bring aid to those in need of help

Hello Keith,
Great Idea. A nice campaign, are you going to allow armed ships or just the unarmed ones?

I have been reading a nice little book about the subs used as life guard's for some of the Pacific campaign and they were armed and used to attack in the area they operated.
Just a thought, Count me in with something.
Cheers,
Bruce

Greetings Keith!
This sounds like it could be very fun! Has a timeframe been considered as of yet?

Bruce was just seeing what kind of intrest this would get, was thinking of any ship armed or unarmed used for Search and Rescue. You could have the Arfix RAF Rescue launch armed aswell as the RNLI Rescue unarmed. Some Coastgaurd ships are also armed and even PT Boats where used to Rescue downed airmen.
Daniel I was thinking of an eight month campaign for the later part of 2011 but please feel free to put in any ideas you might have for this as it is my first idea for a Group Build and would welcome any help with this.

I am interested, great idea Keith! Of course, I should finish some group builds before I enlist for new ones I will probably do the old classic Airfix RAF launch in 1:72. I also have two other choices in the stash, the Airfix RNLI Severn Class Lifeboat (also 1:72) and the Revell 1:200 Kustwacht "Waker" Coast Guard vessel. We ALL probably have those in our stashes

Great Idea, what about SAR aircraft, B17's / Lancaster's / Wellingtons / hudsons etc with lifeboats slung underneath? Some facinating schemes, both wartime & post war.
Count me in.

Hi Keith!
I like the longer length of time, as well as having this kick off later in 2011. (I appreciate your taking input, by the way!!) I'm a "slower" builder than most on this site. My work table/area is a folding dinner tray, so everything has to be put away every night!! (Cats, kids, and general klutziness around our house!) Also, I've been looking at the Hasegawa Soya Antarctic Observation & Research kits. Would they be allowed? I read somewhere that they've been involved with rescues, but I'd have to confirm that!
Thanks!

Daniel I suppose those kind of ships could do rescues aswell from time to time and you could even do a school of Dolphins swimming along side it if the fancy for a Dio takes you

I like this idea. It will give me a chance to build the USCGC Pontchartrain.

Anything to do with SAR is a go for me. I;m kind of new to this whole forum and not sure how this type of thing works. Do we just build the kit and post pix on this site?

I'm in. As a retired Navy SAR Corpsman I wouldn't be true to my roots if I passed this one up. Guess I'll shelve that old 1/125 Jacques Cousteau Calypso I just picked up. (Only $3 at a yard sale )

Karl a flying boat would qualify for such SAR missions, I think there would be quite a variety of craft for this Campaign so will ask the powers that be for it to be approved thanks again for your intrest in this Idea

Great idea. I have just signed up. I am in with a RAF Walrus flying boat or a SAR helicopter.
The Walrus will be a great excuse for using some of the rigging methods and materials Guido was so kind to send me for rigging of biplanes. Vielen dank, Guido
