Well I have a 1/350 Nimitz which will be built as on her 1977 - 78 med deployment but what I can't find is what escorts she had with her and if any are available in 1/350 kit form.
I'm just looking for one to show an escort ship on display. I've checked google but the 1977-78 cruise seems like a black hole.
Thanks for any help.

Luciano,
Looks like the lion share of escorts was the Charles Adams class DDGs. The USS John King, DDG3 was in the Med in 1978, so you can start there. My brother-in-law was on the Nimitz for one of it's Med cruises, I think in 1976-77.

It looks like the first Spruance class to deploy to the Med was in 79 with the Saratoga.

Kenny and Jim thanks for your replies, I'll look into the USS John King and then see if I can find a kit.
Another question, would there have been attack sub's in the carrier group like they have now and if so what class?

A 350 plastic CF Adams by Trumpeter or Dragon would sure be nice.

A rule of thumb is any where there is a carrier the is a fast attack sub. As for which class Permit or Sturgeon.
I had talked to a few of our combat guys and they said each battle group has a sub and each carrier has a sub. However if you ever see a battle group picture you will only ever see one sub.

Thanks Jim.
As for the John King, thats a no:
The end of 1977 saw the ship under the scrutiny of several Norfolk area repair facilities following discovery of major engineering plant maintenance requirements. Early 1978 saw the ship moved to Philadelphia Naval Shipyard for a four month overhaul of her main propulsion plant.
Taken from the USS John King Assoc - here
I'll now check out each of the class until I find a match.
