I live within 15 miles of the showboat and see her everyday always wanted to build the new kit. thanks for renewing my interest.

Jim, thanks for posting those pictures of North Carolina. Not only were they timely for me, since I'm working on Trumpy's 1/350 kit right now, but it was also a trip down memory lane for me. I remember my folks taking me to see her when I was just a lad. My wife and I went back last fall so I could see her again. Had to do that one solo, though. SWMBO had a bad attack of claustrophobia once we got below decks. I wasn't sure I was going to get her topside before she fainted!

I was glad to see that the No. 3 16" gun house is now open to the public. I didn't remember than from my childhood visit. It's amazing to stand inside there and realize how cramped it is and imagine it under combat conditions, the noise, the activity, smell of burnt gunpowder mixed with sweat, lubricating oil, etc.. Only increases my respect for the men who manned these great ships.
