Hi,
This is a build of the Airfix 1/600th County Class Guided Missile destroyer as HMS Glamorgan in 1982. My best friend served on her before spending 10 years in Nuclear hunter killers. As a surprise I am building her as he last sailed in her.
I bought the kit of Ebay in a early boxing - to see the quality is poor would be an understatement. I have spent the last day comparing against the Jacobin plans and filling gaps (lots of them) and starting to make some of the structural changes.
here is shot showing the rear of the ship with all of the detail sanded off ready for replacement and the gaps filled.
Here is a shot showing some of the rework on the superstructure including a new layout at the rear.
Here is a shot showing some of the details being added - doors, ladders, new gun barrels

For the next update I will try to get some decent photographs.

I have a few more updates as I am now coming to the conclusion that even more of this model needs replacing.
As an example one very clunky and poor wing for the bridge
some shots showing the placement wings and detail
You can also see some of the rear superstructure being built up
Here is the turret cleaned up - I have added some details and completely replaced the kit barrels. I have some brass parts that I have not glued yet.

Some more updates from today. I have now scratched the Exocet launcher bins (the actual Exocet bins are from White Ensign). I have also added various details, doors and other parts as I make my way around the hull. I have also replaced more the of the Airfix clunky plastic.
I have also added some more detail to the gun turret and have completed on of the gun barrels.

Great start, Colin. Looks like the kit is usable only for the basic shapes, everything else has to be scratched... Oh, the "good old" Airfix days...
Cheers!

Nice work so far! Watching this one with interest as I also have one to start from the Airfix 'Falklands Warship' giftset, so triple the joy of 50% scratchbuilding for me!I can't even work out what parts are supposed to be the Seacat launchers in the Devonshire kit.
