Hey all!
Just a final plug for the Midway, 1942-2012 campaign we've got starting on June 7 and running for a year. It looks like I didn't set it up correctly to show on the Model Shipwrights Group Build page but it's certainly open to ship builders and we'd love to have you. If you're interested, it's on the AeroScale Campaign page.
Thanks for looking and keep on steaming!
Michael

Michael, I'll check it out over on Aeroscale. I have Trumpy's 1/350 Hornet that I was planning to do up in her Midway scheme. I have all three GMM PE sets for her, as well as Trumpeter's 1/350 plane's for her air wing. I'm not really ready to start on her as I try to keep only one large ship going at a time and right now I'm about 30% into Trumpy's 1/350 North Carolina. But, if the campaign is going to run for a year that should give me time to finish up North Carolina and still get Hornet done within the deadline.
Should be a great campaign with a lot of possibilities considering the USN and IJN ships involved. Perhaps some brave soul with lots of $$$ to spend will tackle Haseqawa's 1/350 Akagi. I'd love to build that kit, but the cost keeps me away from her. I think about all the other ships I could build and fully trick out with all the available after market for what I'd spend on Akagi and her after market.

Robert,
Nice icon!

I actually have the Akagi with all the Hasegawa aftermarket stuff for it (whew!) It was kind of a holy grail for me, so I went whole hog. But man, it's scary! For fun (?) I just went through the instructions and the 4 seperate etched sets to synch things up and man, what a mess! Don't know if I'm quite ready to tackle that yet. On the other hand, I saw a finished one on another Ship modeling site within the last week that looks like that guy used it all and it looks great. We'll see.
Anyway, thanks for your interest and I look forward to seeing what you get the chance to do!

Michael, yeah, takes a classy guy to have an icon like that one. We seem to share the same heroes.
I admire your nerve, taking on Akagi with all the trimmings. But, Hornet with all the PE sets is pretty intimidating for me as well. I hope my skills are up to doing her some level of justice. I have to say, I've seen some build ups of Akagi and she is one of the most impressive injection kits I've ever seen. I'll be anxious to see what you do with her.
Midway supplies such a wealth of possibilities for a campaign. Especially since it looks like this will ships and planes. Should be a great one! I've been reading Shattered Sword, so I'm kind of inspired. I don't know if you have read it, but it makes you appreciate even more what a near run thing it was for the USN. Yeah, the Japaneses may have made some very fundamental errors, but even with all the U.S. had going for them, that battle could still easily have been lost, with God knows what consequences for the outcome and duration of the war.
