Hi Matthew

Good review, but here's a head's up
The kit includes decals for Italian Navy only.. not US Navy.

The US Navy Guppy IB program had the following submarines:
SS220 USS Barb
SS247 USS Dace
SS366 USS Hawkbill
SS367 USS Icefish

The decals included in the box are for the following subs, transfered/loaned to Italian navy :
S-511 Enrico Tazzoli (ex-Barb)
S-510 Leonardo da Vinci (ex-Dace)

Both were originally Gatos, and converted for Guppy IB. The SS366 and SS367 were Balaos.

Hope this helps
Cheers
Rui

Thanks for the review, it would seem that AFV is taking the lead in 1:350 submarines right now.

cheers/Jan

While the model looks as another little gem from AFV , i am more, this time at least captivated by the art box. That bridge is begging to be done in resin or otherwise for a very atmospheric dio .Italian is classy one way or another , no doubt.

Hi everybody,

I just received the kit from Hong Kong (bought on ebay...price + sending to Italy about 19.00 USD).

A good review ; I agree with the other guys,, 510 & 511 were the italian hull numbers- however, there was a difference between the 2 boats : around the higher part of the conning tower of Tazzoli, there was a kind of rectangular "dome", which altered the line a little bit : so, for building Tazzoli, some little modification (and photographic evidence) is needed.

The very nice box art is not fantasy and most probably inspired by a real photo : this bridge crosses the passage between "Mar Piccolo" and "Mar Grande" in Taranto, one of the biggest bases of the Italian Navy, and is opened for passage of surface vessels.

Best greetings to everybody form the high mountains of northern Italy (nothing to do with Taranto, unfortunately...more than 1200 Km away)

Giusto
