I asked the question on the other site, from a discription of a 1-400 etch sheet I am using, and came across these strange looking thingys, apparently they are called - awning stanchions - does anyone know what you're suppose to do with them ? Until a few moments ago, I didn't even know what they were called, now though, I'd like to know more.
Do they have to be bent into shape, where on a ship would they be used, and what would they be used for ?
Has anyone got a model with these awning stanchions being used, and if so could I please see a close up.
The 2 eye looking things I thought were eyelets or binoculars, I would like to know how these are set up.
Look forward to your reply.

Hi Alec!

Awning stanchions are the support poles for fabric sunshades set up over open deck areas. They would typically be installed on the deck-edge of a model and would resemble the vertical poles supporting deck railings, only much taller.

The most famous examples would be depictions of the US battleships at Pearl Harbor who had awnings up over the forward and aft extremities of their main decks.

Many thanks for clearing that up for me, I came across these in my 1-400 etch kit, never really took much notice before, now I have them, thought best I ask.
Thank you again.
