Hello All,
How about a campaign about ships for less known Navies IE: Spain, Chile, Netherlands, Belgium, Norway, Singapore, Etc. No Major Power is allowed IE:
U.S., China, France, U.K., Russia, India, ETC:
The time line is 1960-Present time.
Any scale any ship( Forign built or Home Made) allowed
6 Months length of campaign
Start time Next Year.
So What do you think, We can change the time line to 1900 to present if you all wish.
Let Me Know,
Cheers,
Bruce

Banning the major powers as a subject would result in some unusual builds.
1900 to nowadays widens the field and maybe it would be fun to include non-combatants or even merchant vessels.
Sounds like a good idea anyway Bruce, I can think of at least two builds that would fit in here. A very tentative count me in,
cheers,
Julian

Hello Julian,
I was looking for a new model for the soviet Union campaign and ran across some of the ships that were involved in the battleship race in South America before WW1. That got me to think that the smaller Countries are usually do not have a campaign made for them.
I agree about the time line 1900 to Present day.
Any other suggestions for the rules?
Cheers,
Bruce

A couple of ideas for builds that sprang to mind are the Dutch tug "Zwarte Zee", (the 3rd tug to carry that name), that sailed under the command of Theunis Vet during the WW II, helping many vessels in that period. Another possibility would be a rebuild of Dragons Independence to the Spanish Cabot with a deckload of Harriers. I think you have to nail down what are and what are not major powers: there are some fine models around that took part in the Russian-Japanese conflict, (Tsushima).

Hi Bruce, great idea, has massive potential to produce interesting builds, I also like the timeline back to 1900. One thought, and I don't wish to overcomplicate matters, Emipres, countries and even Navies rose and fell, and in some cases rose back again over the last 110 years.

The question is, how are you going to define major powers, those at are major powers as countries and or Navies today, or have been at any time during the period. Also where would Post colonial navies, Austraila, Canada for instance fit in.??

Just I have got a number of ideas, and it is what fits and what doesnt.

Hello Simon,
How about this: 1900 to 1918 Major Powers: UK, US, Germany, Russia, Austo-Hungarian,Italy, Japan.
!919 to 1945 Major Powers: UK and Commonwealth Navies, US, Italy, Japan, Germany, Soviet Union.
!945 to Present Major Powers: US, UK, France, Soviet Union ( Russia),China,India.
Does that sound OK to you? Also did I miss any Major powers in any of the time periods?
Good Question
Cheers,
Bruce
PS,
It is going to be wild as I am going to submit this campaign and approve this campaign as campaign admid.

Thanks Bruce,

That looks about right to me.

One of my thoughts was one of the post war Canadian vessels from Resin shipyards, they look very interesting, the other would be an ex RN WW2 destroyer flogged off one of the smaller navies.

also wasn't there Rumours of the De Reuter on 1/350th??

Hello Simon,
I think you are thinking about a Dragon announcement from last year. Of course I could be wrong about the company. I will check and see what I can find out.

Bruce

Hi Bruce

Don't think it was Dragon, and there was some CAD posted on I think it was SteelNavy, but cannot remember for the life who the manufacturer was supposed to be, or if it was even mentioned.

She would be interesting ship to build.

For the ex RN destroyer I thought either a Dutch or Indonesian K class or, If I can find enough info a Turkish M class. based on the WEM kit.

Hello Simon,
I think it was a resin model. Try White Ensign Models or Yankee Model works.
I will keep trying to find her.
Cheers,
Bruce
PS: I think I came up with the name of the campaign: Lesser Known Navies or
Small Navies of the World. What do you think? Let me know.

found the De Rueter kit, an new outfit called Pacific Crossroads, it is on the WEM site, but no price. Will keep an eye, as she is an interesting looking ship.

I think "Smaller Navies sounds better than lesser known.

Hello Simon,
Glad you found the De Reuter.
"Smaller Navies of the World Campaign" How does that sound?
If sounds good, I am going to start a new thread with the title and set up the rules.
Cheers,
Bruce

Hi Bruce,

Sounds good to me. Will make my mind up on the final subjest after Scalemodelworld at Telford in November, always the possibility of loads of interesting subjects to be found there.

It sounds kind of nice.
Do you consider Federal Republic of Germany (post war West Germany) a major sea power? If not , it might trigger my participation.
Secondly I would very much appreciate a 9 months duration.
Cheers,
Guido

Edit: Whoops. I guess you answered the first already (note to myself: READ before you start talking, dumba**! )

Sounds like the sort of subjects which interest me. In my case it would probably be a Scandinavian or Baltic navy - most likely Finland.

If this gets approved you can count me in.

Hello All,
I am going to put this on the backburner for a few months.
I am doing 2 ship kit reviews,1 book review and I have been sick for a few weeks and I am going to see the doc's monday.
If anyone wishes to pick this campaign up and submit it, Go for it.
West Germany would be a smaller navy.
Cheers,
Bruce
